failo tipas statusas T sritis informatika apibrėžtis Failo charakteristika, apibūdinanti jos sandarą ir duomenų formatus. Failo tipą nurodo jos ↑prievardis. Pavyzdžiui, ↑grynojo teksto failai turi prievardį TXT (pvz., tekstas.txt). Pagal prievardį failo tipą atpažįsta programos, o žmogui priimtinesnis failo tipo pavadinimas. Failą sukūrusi programa prie failo vardo prirašo ir jos tipą atitinkantį prievardį. Operacinėje sistemoje prievardžiai susiejami su atveriančiosiomis programomis, kurioms būtų galima nukreipti tokį prievardį turinčius failus, kad juos atvertų.
